Starting With A Penny
Starting With A Penny's Community Food Bank's charitable food distribution programs provides hunger relief to food insecure individuals who need short-term, immediate assistance. Emergency food relief efforts have evolved into a robust, well-orchestrated support infrastructure for many hungry and food insecure individuals, with demand increasing every year. Starting With A Penny's Community Food Bank relies heavily on private support. Without social safety net and charitable programs, more Californians would live in poverty. Our targeted population either are those that are experiencing homelessness or those that are unable to meet their basics needs including food security.
S.W.A.P.'s Community Food Bank hunger relief program serves the public directly. We have removed all of the barriers that restrict our target population from receiving the food and support needed in the short term while focusing on goals to eliminate hunger in the long term. It is important that our target population have adequate nutrition to learn, work and thrive without being distracted by hunger or lack of proper nutrition in the classroom, business or at rest or play. Energy and nutrition are key components to effectively journey the path to success and improvement in the lives of our target population.
S.W.A.P.'s Community Food Bank provides a market style approach to food distribution in an effort to reduce stigma about receiving food and goods at no cost, regardless of their income status. In addition to providing food and goods to our target population, S.W.A.P.'s Community Food Bank will increase public awareness and support for Hunger Relief strategies through strategic activities during the yearly Hunger Action Month.
